The last moments of this year were spent here at home playing UNO, eating, drinking, being merry, and watching the television coverage from NY and Dallas. Devyn and I went out for some no stress after Christmas shopping in Lubbock. We spent hours skimming TJ Maxx and Dillards, had dinner, and came home with some quality items at great prices. We both agreed that these were our favorite find of the day.

I always like to hang a seasonal wall decoration in the kitchen...i couldn't find one that was long and narrow so I made one for this year. I took leftover fabric scraps and notions and made it the size I wanted. I found the 'let it snow' sign at Ross a few days ago for $2.50 to go with it. That's my kind of decor...less than $3.00.

We spent Christmas Day in our pajamas, opened stockings, and lounged around. This evening I did something I have long wanted to do...I made homemade tamales, 180 to be exact. Wow, what an experience...it was fun, but a ton of work. I feel sooo accomplished. :)

After our family Christmas with Albert's family, we each exchanged our gifts for each other. It was a nice and beautiful Christmas Eve, snow was falling outside and old fashioned Christmas music was playing inside as we took turns opening them all...ahh it was just perfect.

I said I wouldn't put up another tree, but I felt that I needed one for the extra family gifts that would be at our Christmas party on Christmas Eve with Albert's family. I put up a small tree by the fireplace and got my snowman ornaments out of storage...i ended up loving this simple snowman tree.

I love getting our stockings out each year...I made each one of them by hand. I made mine and Albert's in 1988 and we have used them every year since. The kids were made from the same pattern on the year of their first Christmas and my rule was that I could only use what I had on hand...so none of them cost me much of anything except time. I remember making Devyn's late at night while she slept next to me when she was just a baby. They have been with us each and every Christmas since and I cherish them more than any other item that we use at Christmas time, because they evoke many sweet memories of all the Christmases past.

Tonight was the Christmas Cheer party for the cheerleaders. They met had a great time. playing the 'dirty Santa' game, and eating together. Today also begins their break from school. yay!

Devyn recently did her own hair color. She has wanted 'ombre' hair (the tips are lighter than the rest) since wayyyy back but everyone in town seemed afraid to try it. She studied it on the computer and decided she would do it herself. It turned out almost exactly how she wanted.

We had Christmas dinner with my family this evening and had a really good time. Lots of good food, a Chinese gift exchange, and ended with mom playing the piano, Albert playing guitar, and Dad singing El Rancho Grande! There are 23 of us so I had a FULL house!

We watched the Southlake Carroll Dragons play at the Cowboy Stadium for the 5A division 1 state championship. They won!... It was very exciting, and we were happy we chose to follow them this year.

For as many years as Carrie has been around, she always sleeps under the tree at Christmas time...knocking the bows off of gifts or stepping on them to make her way to a comfortable spot. I should really consider keeping a small lighted tree up year round for her to sleep under.

I was soo excited today to finish a very meaningful Christmas present for my husband. I cut up all of his work jeans a year or so ago to make a quilt. I made the top of it...but then it got put aside. I'm sure he forgot all about it by now, but today I finished the backing and binding on it. I LOVE it! I can't wait to see him open it.

I have really enjoyed my kitchen being painted grey. I am famous for changing paint colors in my house. I know it can be alot of trouble to paint... but when I am feeling a color, I can't get it out of my head. This one is making me feel good, but who knows for how long. I think my record is 2 years with a color. It's one of the things my husband and I have in common, we get bored easily with our surroundings.

We drove the girls to Grand Prarie for the Demi Lovato concert, and took the boys to Bedford for another Southlake Carroll playoff game. The girls loved the concert, the Carroll Dragons won another game, and we called it a good day!

After each football game, I take a photo of Morgan and her boyfriend, but normally they are smiling, not today. This was the Regional championship game, and we lost 27-28 in double overtime. It was sooo upsetting for the boys who worked so hard and came so far...and sad for all of us who have kids playing and cheering or marching one last time. Ughhh, we know it must happen, but it's no fun. On a positive note, I have enjoyed SO MUCH watching Morgan cheer and tumble at football games. She really shines and I will miss it a ton. However, I will always remember it with a smile.

We watched the Carroll Dragons play at Cowboy Stadium today for a playoff game. I really got a kick out of all the bleach blonde hair that I saw when the helmets came off. They won the game and I liked seeing how the big schools do things. Obviously, they do everything BIG!

Some of the football and cheerleader couples got together in our back yard for a movie night in costume. I made them some creepy snacks, and they watched a movie outside in front of a fire on a blow up big screen. It was a good alternative to some of the other parties going on this night.

It's always fun to see the band in costumes the Friday near Halloween. My son went as the rapper, Lil Wayne. The pep rally earlier in the day was also themed after the holiday. My favorite cheerleaders were dressed in uniforms from the past as they danced to 'thriller' ...it was a little eerie.

This was our annual 'pink' breast cancer awareness game, and it is always fun to see all of the pink. I visited with a football mom tonite who battled breast cancer six years ago, and is feeling very blessed to be watching her senior son play football this year...realizing that we cannot take our days and moments for granted. Though I never battled breast cancer, I have had a cancer diagnosis, and she and I both agreed that there is nothing quite like that to wake you up and make you focus on what truly matters to you in life. It can be a blessing sometimes.

Kyle had a listening party tonite in his studio. Two of his best clients (SoulThrowed) just finished an 18 song project. They have quite a few local fans who came to listen and support their new album. This was their second project to do in the studio and I don't think it will be their last.

We cleaned out the last bit of our stuff from the coffeehouse today. A few weeks ago we sold the coffee business and bit by bit we have been breaking away. It was bad timing I guess, we just didn't have room in our life for another business. We are now leasing the building to the new owners and they have some new ideas for it. I am relieved, a little sad when I hear a song playing that was on our playlist there, but nothing too dramatic. :) I know we poured alot of ourselves into this for a year, but if I have learned one thing in my adult life, it has been..."do not get attached to anything physical or tangible, only people. things come and go... of course people come and go as well, but not the ones that matter, those remain in your hearts forever!"

We are looking at all sorts of options right now in the way of colleges for next fall. Devyn has really been on the ball applying and making phone calls, getting auditions, etc. She is really motivated to get out of this town as soon as she completes her course of study here in the Spring. I, on the other hand have been looking for the best options for Morgan. Soo, you could say that we have alot of college applications and brochures laying around with more on the way...

After a long week of Homecoming preparations and activities, Friday was the day we had waited for. School ended at 12, there was a parade at 2, where the Daddy's drove the queen nominees to the school gym for a pep rally. Later in the evening during halftime of our football game...

This beautiful girl was crowned Homecoming Queen 2011. She is beautiful inside and out and I guess I am not the only one who believes so. Many kids commented on how she is kind to everyone regardless of social status, race, or popularity, and how she has a soft heart. I love that about her. Thank you Father God for this girl you have entrusted to us...we are priveledged to know her.

I was awakening this morning by a sound louder than I can explain, and I began to feel our bed shaking and our walls rattling. I knew we had just experienced an earthquake...however, my mind went directly to it being September 11th, and then I didn't know what might have just happened. We went outside to see what was going on and our pool water was rocking back and forth. We had several more small ones for the next 24 hours or more.

Morgan was selected as KTAB's cheerleader of the week. She had to do a little video clip for the news camera and had her name announced at the game. She really does work hard and deserves this special little bit of recognition. I have been super proud of her leadership and responsibility this year. She has a great coach who saw this quality in her and has allowed her to have freedom in that area. It has been excellent!

This was our last show at LaScene, and it was a realllly good one. Frank Sinatra covers done by a local artist, even the teenagers were dancing together, and it was one of the busiest days ever. Not only did we have 3 shows, but we also had our air conditioner go out, our espresso machine went out of wack, and it was super hot. We prevailed through it all and had a great day despite the messes. We knew this was our last day here with business as usual but no one else did.

Today I took the Varsity cheerleading teams pictures for the football program. They turned out great, this is one that we arent using but that I liked. These girls have worked together so well, and are 'family' already this year. It makes all the difference.

They were SO CUTE, and one of them named Hayley scolded me for not updating my blog because she is checking it regularly. An hour or so later, my aunt Shirley came into the shop and informed me of the same....'you aren't updating your blog!' So folks...I believe it is time to update my blog! I really thought that no one was reading it, guess I was wrong!
